Using Hott Notes, a free sticky notes application for Windows-powered machines, is as simple as using traditional sticky notes, and that is certainly a good thing. What’s great about using Hott Notes instead of traditional sticky notes is that you no longer waste paper and that you gain access to functionality that traditional sticky notes can never provide – like alarms.

You can use Hott Notes on a variety of Windows editions, from Windows 2000 up to Windows 7. To get the application up and running, you must download an executable (it’s close to 4MB in size), run it, then click through the instructions presented to you by a setup wizard. You will be done in less time than it takes to eat a cracker.
It must be mentioned here that Hott Notes is also available as a Portable Edition. You must download an archive, unzip it, and run the Hott Notes executable.

While Hott Notes is running, you will notice an icon in the system tray. By default, when you double click this icon, it creates a new message note. When you right click the icon, you are presented with a context menu that allows you to access the Settings, the Notebook/Archive, the Note Desktop, and more.

When you launch Hott Notes for the first time, you will be presented with a Welcome prompt that will guide you through a few basic setup steps. You will get to choose if you want the application to launch at startup, choose if you want the global hotkeys to be enabled, and choose what happens when you double click the Hott Notes system tray icon.

There are three types of notes you can create with the Hott Notes application: message notes (type in whatever you want), checklist notes (a list with boxes you can check), and scribble notes (use the mouse to draw whatever you want). When you create a note, you get to type in whatever you want, pick the formatting for the text, choose the color of the note, and select if you want to set an alarm for the note. It is, in all fairness, just as easy as using traditional sticky notes.

Hott Notes is, as mentioned above, a free application.

Don’t waste paper! Use Hott Notes instead and you get a free, properly good sticky notes application for Windows.

Pros

Getting Hott Notes up and running on a Windows-powered machine takes little time; there’s a portable edition as well. You can choose what happens when you double click the Hott Notes system tray icon. You can create three types of notes. You can set up alarms. The interface is customizable and easy to use. Hott Notes is a free application.

Cons

None that I could think of.
